Web Tools

Web tools are interactive tools that allow you to easily access data and models at times that suit you without the problems of installation and maintenance of software and the issues of updating data.

The following ICS web tools are a sample to give you an idea of the potential of the complete interactive ICS Web Tools which are available by subscription.  The web tools may take up to two minutes to load on slow connections.

Wool Risk Tool

The common method used by farmers to estimate risk and value is to compare current prices with historic long-term price deciles.  Based on the tendency for prices to revert to their long-term averages, if prices are in the upper section of the long-term range, downside risk is assumed to be high.  Alternatively if prices are in the low section of the long-term range, downside risk is assumed to be low.

At extreme price levels these assumptions are reasonable, however the market spends a lot of time trading at 'middling' price levels where long-term deciles do not provide useful short to medium term signals about risk and value.

In order to better evaluate risk and value, ICS has developed a wool price risk model that takes into account:

  • current price levels average

  • seasonal price patterns

  • direction of OECD leading indicator (as proxy for the tide in demand)

  • length of time until delivery/sale

The balance between upside (higher prices) and downside (lower prices) is used by the model to develop price targets for buying and selling. If forward bids/offers exceed the targets then a sell/buy signal is generated. The model acts as a prompt while also providing an objective method by which to set GTC orders in the market.

Note that as this is a sample tool only some of the selectors in the tool are frozen.

Free Trial

You are welcome to a free trial of any of these web tools. The Subscribe Page provides the relevant details for securing a one-month free trial. You will need to provide some contact details and in return you will be able to trial whatever web tool you are interested in at your own convenience.

Every endeavour is made to minimise the size of web tools so that they can work effectively on slow connections. If you have any problems please contact ICS.
